Wedding-Day Barber Timeline

Book the barber as soon as the date and venue are set, add up the service lengths for everyone getting a cut, and plan the last cut to finish with time to spare before photos. On RoadRun each appointment is booked online with a card saved and charged after the service.

Why a barber at the venue works

On a wedding day the groom and his party have a hundred small jobs and no spare hour to sit in a shop. A mobile barber who comes to the hotel suite, the rental house or the getting-ready room keeps everyone in one place, on one schedule, and fresh for the photos. The trick is planning: a barber day for a group is mostly arithmetic and a few phone calls, done early.

As soon as the date and venue are set: book the barber

Popular wedding dates fill first, so book once you know where the party will get ready and roughly how many people want a cut.

  • Check coverage for the getting-ready address. Enter the hotel, venue or rental address on RoadRun. Only businesses that cover that address show up, with their real open times.
  • Pick a business that takes groups. In the Phoenix area, Vanso Mobile Barbershop takes wedding and group bookings. See the mobile barber for weddings page and the Phoenix mobile barber page.
  • Choose the start time from the photos backwards. Ask the photographer when the groom needs to be ready, then work back.

Weeks before: count heads and add up the time

Make a list of everyone who wants a cut: the groom, the groomsmen, fathers, grandfathers, the ring bearer. Then decide what each person needs. A full cut and beard shape takes longer than a quick line-up.

Each service on RoadRun lists its own length on the booking page. Add those lengths up for the whole party, then add a buffer for late arrivals, a slow tie, or the groom changing his mind about the fade. For example, if a cut takes 25 minutes and six people need one, that is two and a half hours of cutting before any buffer.

For a big party, have another member of the party book a second appointment from their own account, so each block of cuts is its own booking with its own reminder.

The week of: confirm the details

A short message to the barber and to your coordinator saves a lot of stress on the day. Confirm:

  • The exact address and room. Suite number, house entrance, which door to use, any gate code. Add it to the address note when you book.
  • Parking. Where the barber can park and unload. Hotels and venues often have rules.
  • The space. A chair without wheels, good light, a nearby outlet, and room to work near a mirror.
  • Who lets the barber in and who keeps the queue moving.
  • The order of cuts. Put the groom last so his cut is the freshest in the photos.

You get a confirmation when you book and a reminder before the visit, so the time and address are in your inbox to forward to the party.

The day of: a sample timeline

Every wedding is different, but most barber days on site follow this shape:

WhenWhat happens
Start of the bookingThe barber arrives, sets up and confirms the order of cuts.
First halfGroomsmen and family, one after another, with beard work booked where needed.
Second halfAnyone who arrived late, then any touch-ups.
Last cutThe groom, so the line-up is fresh for the camera.
BufferTime before photos to get dressed, with nobody rushing.

Keep a phone handy for the barber, and make sure the person who booked can be reached in case of traffic or a room change.

A short checklist for the groom on the morning itself:

  • Wash and dry your hair before the barber arrives, unless they ask you not to.
  • Wear a shirt you can change out of; save the wedding shirt for after the cut.
  • Have a photo of the cut you want on your phone, even if you have talked it through.
  • Decide on the beard the day before: keep, shape or shave.
  • Eat something. A long morning on an empty stomach makes everything harder.

Payment, tips and changes

Each appointment is booked online with a card saved. Payment secured at booking. Not charged until your appointment is complete! Nothing is held until about 72 hours before the visit, and the card is charged after the service. Tips are optional and go to the barber, and each person who booked can add one after the visit.

Wedding plans move, so know the rules before you book. Rescheduling is free more than 24 hours before the appointment, 25% of the service subtotal from 2 to 24 hours before, and 50% within 2 hours. Cancelling is free more than 24 hours before, 50% from 1 to 24 hours before, and 100% within the last hour. If the business cancels, anything you paid is refunded in full.

Other group days

The same plan works for other groups with a deadline: a team day at the office, a photo shoot, a graduation, or a family reunion before the group picture. Count heads, add up the service lengths, confirm the space, and book early. Browse every city on the mobile barber page.
